Artist Statement

Reading People and Place

I work with the face and place as traces rather than images. In painting, I look for the state before language; in photography, I follow what light leaves on memory. The work moves between silence, people, and the city without trying to over-explain them.

Mohammad Al Omar is the professional name of Mohammad Omar Alkhateeb, a visual artist working from Amman, Jordan. His practice moves between figurative and expressive painting and photography, with attention to faces, place, everyday memory, and the effect of light on the image. He holds a BSc in Software Engineering from Philadelphia University, completed in 2009; that background appears in method and archive rather than as the front of the artistic identity. He has participated in solo exhibitions, group exhibitions, and symposia in Jordan and abroad, and is a member of the Jordanian Plastic Artists Association.
